This case is created for the DOE All-Hazards project at Texas A&M. The purpose is to model a synthetic grid in the greater Memphis, TN region, including the full New Madrid Seismic Area. The geographic extent used for this case is the rectangle from 34 N to 38 N and 88 W to 92 W. There is 11,186 MW of peak load split into four areas. Generation from the 2024 EIA-860 report is included, totaling 63 plants and 188 units with 19,628 MW of combined nameplate capacity from a variety of fuel types. The network of 974 AC transmission lines and 407 transformers is designed to be N-1 AC power flow contingency secure. Dynamics for stability analysis are included and tuned according to the methodology described in the following paper:
J. Baek and A. B. Birchfield, “Dynamic performance design and validation in large, IBR-heavy synthetic grids,” Energies, vol. 18, no. 15, pp. 1-22, Jul. 2025.
