Texas2k Series24 Cases with Improved Dynamics

This set of six Series24 cases for the Texas2k system represent a 2000-bus electric power grid that is entirely synthetic, built from public information and a statistical analysis of real power systems.  It bears no relation to the actual grid in this location, except that generation and load profiles are similar, based on public data. The case includes power flow data as well as parameters for transient stability and geomagnetic disturbance studies. The case is provided in PowerWorld format, including binary (PWB), PowerWorld auxiliary text format, Matpower format, PSS/E raw format, and PSLF epc format. More about the data formats. This case is derived from the original 2000-bus Texas case (ACTIVSg2000 [1]), with improved dynamic performance [2].

This download includes 2024 updates with six different dynamics cases.
(1) Case 1: 2016 Summer Peak (identical power flow to original ACTIVSg2000 case)
(2) Case 2: 2016 Low Load (reduced load and generation, low inertia)
(3) Case 3: 2024 Summer Peak (updated to include 2024 generation, load, and new transmission)
(4) Case 4: 2024 Low Load (reduced load and generation, low inertia case for 2024)
(5) Case 5: 2024 High Renewables (high penetration of renewables case for 2024)
(6) Case 6: 2024 Low Load with Grid-Forming Inverters (same as Case 4 but with some different inverter models)

Dataset Download

This power system dataset is synthetic and does not represent any actual grid. It is provided by Texas A&M University researchers free for commercial or non-commercial use. We do encourage those who use these datasets to: (1) Fill out the information in the form below, and (2) Cite the appropriate papers when using the datasets. https://electricgrids.engr.tamu.edu/references/
